{"id":13,"date":"2008-08-04T11:43:24","date_gmt":"2008-08-04T15:43:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.massfolkarts.org\/blog\/?p=13"},"modified":"2008-08-18T15:28:22","modified_gmt":"2008-08-18T19:28:22","slug":"new-england-folk-musicians-celebrate-quebec-400","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.massfolkarts.org\/index.php\/2008\/08\/new-england-folk-musicians-celebrate-quebec-400\/","title":{"rendered":"New England folk musicians celebrate Quebec 400"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <a href=\"-finale2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-21\" style=\"margin: 10px;\" title=\"Crossroads Finale\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.massfolkarts.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/crossroads-finale21.jpg\" alt=\"Crossroads Finale\" width=\"360\" height=\"238\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p> Joyeuse Anniversaire, Qu\u00e9bec!  <\/p>\n<p>Just back from accompanying a great group of musicians to perform for our neighbors to the north.  &#8220;Crossroads: Music Traditions of New England&#8221; was New England&#8217;s contribution to  <a href=\"http:\/\/translate.google.com\/translate?hl=en&amp;sl=fr&amp;u=http:\/\/www.quebec400.gc.ca\/&amp;sa=X&amp;oi=translate&amp;resnum=4&amp;ct=result&amp;prev=\/search%3Fq%3Dquebec%2B400%26hl%3Den\" target=\"_blank\">Qu\u00e9bec 400<\/a>, a year-long celebration marking the 400th anniversary of the city&#8217;s founding.   <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crookedstill.com\" target=\"_blank\">Crooked Still<\/a> represented Massachusetts and  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nightingalevt.org\" target=\"_blank\">Nightingale<\/a> Vermont<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" style=\"float: right; margin: 10px;\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.massfolkarts.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/crooked-still-and-nightingale.jpg\" alt=\"Rehearsing\" width=\"225\" height=\"179\" \/>.  <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.massfolkarts.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/nightingale-on-deck1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft alignnone size-full wp-image-19\" style=\"float: left; margin: 10px;\" title=\"Nightingale on deck\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.massfolkarts.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/nightingale-on-deck1.jpg\" alt=\"Nightingale on deck\" width=\"222\" height=\"152\" \/><\/a>Rhode Island sent the  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibluegrass.com\/bg_bands2.cfm?b_i=1809\" target=\"_blank\">Pegheads<\/a>, Connecticutt it&#8217;s state troubador,  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.piercecampbell.com\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\">Pierce Campbell<\/a>. Maine was represented by Nipmuc flutemaker\/player  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawkhenries.com\" target=\"_blank\">Hawk Henries<\/a> and New Hampshire by dance fiddler  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rodneymiller.net\" target=\"_blank\">Rodney Miller <\/a>(a National Heritage Fellow),  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.burkesurette.com\" target=\"_blank\">David Surrette<\/a>, and accordion wiz  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.garysred.com\" target=\"_blank\">Gary Sredzienski<\/a>. Above you see everyone squeezed on stage for a finale. The event took place at Espace 400 on the banks of the St. Lawrence River. A full day of traditional tunes and songs, some with strong Franco-American influence, culminated with everyone on stage.  Just minutes after closing, we were all treated to  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertlepage.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Robert LePage&#8217;s <\/a>incredible sound and light installation projected on the grain silos across the river.  <\/p>\n<p>The Qu\u00e9becois know how to enjoy life!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Joyeuse Anniversaire, Qu\u00e9bec!
